Already have an account with Compose, but want to switch over to Shopify billing for the advanced Shopify integration and split theme/template testing? No problem, you can utilize the same account.
01. Cancel Stripe Subscription
Instructions:
First, pause all your active experiments. They will only need to be paused for a few minutes, though you should still consider when would be the best time to switch your subscription type.
Next, navigate to the billing page of your Organization and click "Cancel Subscription" under the Danger Zone section. If you have tested users aggregated for the month, you will need to first settle your invoice. Clicking "Cancel Subscription" will prompt you to "Create Final Invoice".
You will now have a new Invoice in your billing page flagged as Final. You can now select and pay this invoice with you Stripe subscription's default payment method. With that done, you can now select "Cancel Subscription" and "Confirm" the cancelation.
Once done, you will see an option in the billing page to "Create a Subscription". Do not select this! Instead, navigate to your Organization's Settings page.
02. Link to Shopify
Instructions:
In the Organization's Settings page, you should see an "Install on Shopify" button. This option only displays when your Stripe subscription is cancelled or if a subscription was never created on this Organization.
Click "Install on Shopify". This will take you to the Compose Shopify App. Select "Install" and Shopify will prompt you to install the Compose App in your store
Once you install the app, you will be directed back to Compose to choose an Organization to link your Shopify store to. There a couple things to note here:
- If you we not directed back Compose or closed the tab, you can always search for Compose in your Shopify admin dashboard to create the link again
- Only one Organization can be linked to your Shopify store and vice versa. If you manage multiple Shopify stores, you will need an Compose Organization for each one
- You can unlink you Store from an Organization if you ever want to manage it in a different Organization
Selecting an Organization will now link it to your Shopify account!
03. Creating a Shopify Subscription
Instructions:
With your store now linked, you can now go to the Billing page and see a "Create Shopify Subscription" button. Select that to set up the subscription in the Shopify Admin.
You’re done!
Important notes:
- You will need to set a Project to be the Active Shopify Store from the Project settings
- You will need to turn on the Compose App Embed from the Shopify Theme Customizer
- You can see more info on these processes here
- Since billing occurs at the organization level, you will need to assign a single organization to be linked to any given Shopify store. Therefore, for example, if you are an agency working with a variety of Shopify stores they will need to be set up as different organizations, not projects under a single organization umbrella.
