What's Changing with Shopify Checkout?
Shopify is upgrading its checkout system to Checkout Extensibility. This new framework offers several advantages for both you and your customers:
- Enhanced Security: Checkout Extensibility provides a more secure environment for transactions, protecting your customers' data.
- Improved Performance: Faster loading times and a smoother checkout experience can lead to higher conversion rates.
- Greater Flexibility: The new system offers more options to customize the checkout process, allowing you to tailor it to your brand.
What This Means for A/B Testing with Compose
One key change with Checkout Extensibility is how revenue tracking works for A/B testing. Previously, revenue conversions were tracked using additional scripts on the Order Status page. However, with the new system, you should utilize Shopify's web pixels for tracking revenue conversions in Compose.
Here's the good news: this change is seamless for Compose users. All you need to do is:
- Visit your project settings in Compose
- In the “Snippets” tab, copy the snippet under “Shopify Usage”
- In your Shopify admin, find the “Customer events” settings.
- Click “Add custom pixel” and paste in the revenue tracking snippet from Compose.
- Verify the pixel status is “Connected” once saved
Deadlines:
You'll need to migrate those customizations to Checkout Extensibility by specific deadlines set by Shopify:
- August 13, 2024: Information, Shipping, and Payment pages.
- August 28, 2025: Thank You and Order Status pages.
