A redirect test (or split-URL test) is a method of A/B testing. For this test, you would design multiple versions of a webpage, such as the landing page, and traffic will be split between the pages. When running the test, conversion metrics are tracked for each page to see which design performs better. A redirect test can help you decide which design or layout to move forward with publishing on the site.
For example, we are testing 'Page A' against 'Page B' to see which page generates more revenue and gets more engagement. In Compose, Page A is our original, while Page B is the variant. For this test, 50% of traffic would be 'redirected' to Page B instead of seeing Page A. Metrics for both pages are then compared to see which performs better.
Configuration
In the first section of the experiment set up, we add a variant with the type of "Redirect" and enter the URL for Landing Page B.
Then in the Targeting section, we note the original URL that will trigger the test. In this case, it should be the landing page with design A. The trigger rule is set up with the Page URL being "The visitor is example.com":
This experiment is set up so that when users go to the site's landing page, 50% of traffic is redirected to Page B. In the Traffic section, traffic allocation should be set evenly between the original and the variant.
Then the test is started and we wait for results!
